Staff and Volunteers The quality of care at Dwelling Place is anchored by staff chosen for their genuine commitment to serve the elderly. Our staff includes a registered nurse, licensed practical nurses, long term care aides and housekeepers. An important element of the care team is a dedicated core of volunteers who contribute their talents and skills to help improve the quality of life of the residents. Among our volunteers is a pianist who delights the residents with her expertise on the piano, another musician who belts out old favorites to the tune of her guitar, a retired health care professional who leads the non-denominational service and spends time with the residents over coffee. Other friends of Dwelling Place drop by to share some of their time with the residents. The directors of Dwelling Place are actively involved in caring for the residents. Ching Blas-Muego Ching Blas-Muego, RN, MMT, MTA is a registered nurse with more than thirty two years of varied nursing experience. This includes extensive psycho-geriatric experience and work with the elderly in both institutional and home settings, and community health experience in Nanaimo. Ching has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Music Therapy and is a Music Therapist Accredited (MTA). She is Director of Care and responsible for all clinical aspects of care at Dwelling Place. Although busy with her responsibilites at Dwelling Place, Ching finds time to volunteer to play music and minister to the palliative care patients at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Aurel Muego Aurel Muego is Manager/Administrator and responsible for the day-to-day operation of the home. Aurel taught economics at the university level before coming to Canada and was a financial planner in the Lower Mainland for many years. He is available to answer your questions about the material operation of Dwelling Place. When not busy at Dwelling Place Aurel volunteers his time with his favourite fraternal charity organization. Fr. Kevin J. Wiseman Fr. Kevin J. Wiseman was a founding director of Dwelling Place. Fr. Wiseman passed away in March 2001. Fr. Kevin was a missionary in Tanzania for more than 14 years and was a beloved priest in the Diocese of Victoria for more than 30 years. He used to do some of the cooking at Dwelling Place. His legacy of service and his genuine love and concern for other people lives on in the philosophy and atmosphere of the facility. Collectively, the staff at Dwelling Place generate an environment that can only be described as a "Culture of Caring". |
