In late 1999 it became impossible to properly care for him so we spent a great deal of time searching for the proper care facility. We looked at several before we found Dwelling Place. We were impressed from the beginning with the caring manner in which the staff interacted with the residents and the warm comfortable environment. Other care facilities we visited felt very much like an institution, overcrowded and very impersonal. In contrast, Dwelling Place has a small number of residents (13) and provides a high level of personalized care, compassion and offers an environment where residents can safely roam in the garden or just enjoy the outdoors, at any time. My dad has faced many challenges with the progression of the disease and the staff has been very knowledgeable and patient. They have worked hand-in-hand with me and his doctors to ensure he is comfortable and that his physical and emotional needs are met. In 2003, we moved from Nanaimo to the Lower Mainland and briefly considered relocating him to a closer care facility. We quickly realized that he is very comfortable and well cared for at Dwelling Place and that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to find another facility that compares. I have peace of mind knowing that he is well cared for and that his best interests are always first and foremost. In spite of my Dad’s speech difficulties because of a previous stroke, the staff at Dwelling Place treated him with the utmost dignity, respect and compassion.
